Suleyman Demirel University (SDU) is a private international university in Kaskelen, about 20 km from Almaty. It was founded on 17 December 1996 through a Kazakhstan–Turkey initiative and named after Süleyman Demirel, former president of Turkey.

Most bachelor’s courses are taught in English. The university follows the Bologna Process and the ECTS credit system, with bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD programmes across four faculties and the Business School.

As of late 2024, SDU offers 61 programmes: 29 undergraduate, 24 master’s, and 8 doctoral. Roughly 70% of programmes run in English; the rest are available in English, Kazakh, or Russian.

Around 8,500 students study on campus, including students from Central Asia, China, Russia, Mongolia, and Indonesia. The university partners with about 70 universities worldwide through Erasmus and other exchange programmes.
